Probiotics. The "Good" Bacteria.
What are Probiotics?
Whether we like to think about it or not, our bodies are simply hosts to microorganisms that live inside. But these are helpful microorganisms that aid in digestion, building our immune system (especially with the side effects of antibiotic therapy), improve tolerance to lactose, help reduce the risk of certain acute common infectious diseases, and help in absorbing nutrients. [1] When we translate “Probiotics” it means “For Life”.
Why Probiotics?
Not all bacteria is bad bacteria. In fact, when there are an abundant amount of probiotics in your body, this can actually help fight off illness. Probiotics do wonders for the immune system, which in turn keeps you healthy. [2]
How do I take Probiotics?
Probiotics can be found in many foods such as yogurt (try non-cow's milk varieties), kefir, kimchi (Korean fermented cabbage dish), miso, aged cheese, and sauerkraut. [3]
